Things That Influence Your Dreams

1. What You Smell

A study in the Division of Sleep Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School headed by J. Catesby Ware, PhD, says that when you smell something while you sleep can directly affect your
dreams. Instead of waking up to react to the scent stimuli, your brain uses its memories of that smell to create a scene in your dreams. So if you smell food while you sleep, you may just dream about eating something delicious. If you smell something unpleasant, this can cause you bad dreams.

2. What You Hear

What we hear can also influence our dreams. This works the same way as what we smell. But the sense of hearing is much stronger than the sense of smell so it has a bigger impact on our dreams. A beautiful melody or song can bring you to memories that the song reminds you of. An unpleasant sound can cause you nightmares or bring you back to really bad moments in your past.

3. What You Ate

Everybody knows that after eating you have to wait two hours before sleeping or else you may get nightmares. Well the explanation behind this lies in how your body digests food. If you sleep with indigestion, you are more likely to toss and turn in bed and get unpleasant dreams.

4. What You Watched

I think we all can relate to having those movie influenced dreams. What you watched on TV or what you have seen in the movies can manifest in your dreams. if you were very much affected by the story or the special effects of what you have viewed before you slept, you may just find yourself being part of that show or movie in your sleep.

5. How You Sleep

Studies have found a relation between a person’s sleeping position and the dreams that go with them. For example, people who sleep face down or on their tummies seem to have sexual or romantically related dreams. This is believed to be due to the pressure this position puts on the chest and genitals. People who sleep on their backs seem to have a tendency to have nightmares, flying dreams or falling dreams. People who sleep on their side are more likely to either have very little recollection of their dreams or have very little memory of it.

6. What Happened Before You Slept

Lastly, one very common influence to your dreams is what you did or what happened before you slept. If you went swimming for a long time before sleeping, you are most likely to dream that you are still swimming. If you were angry at someone before you slept, you are most likely to have a bad dream or have a dream about the person you are mad at. If you were having fun before you slept then you have the tendency to have a fun dream too

Practice Communication in your Marriage

Most couples believe they need better communication skills and that would change their relationship for the better. They claim that they either argue because of misunderstandings or that one or the other don’t discuss their problems openly. Communication (or lack of it) is often NOT the problem Most couples have re-hashed issues over and over and they know what their partner’s position is. The issue is often that they do not accept the partner’s position and are “trying” to get them to change to see their side. And we know how that usually goes; right? It does not happen. So often communication problems will boil down to “they are not listening to me or they would change their behavior”; or “they don’t care enough about me to change”. Neither of these thought processes are helpful to building and sustaining a fabulous relationship. Breakdowns in communication are often the way in which each partner successfully maintains a balance of power. Power and control issues usually ex...

Ways in which a Perception Of Someone can Be Defined By How Other People Describe Them

There are times when one will meet someone without knowing anything about them and then there are other times when this won’t be the case. In this instance, one will have heard about the other before person they have even met them. When this happens, one can feel as though they already know the other person, and even though they haven’t met them, they may feel the need to behave in a certain way. And the way in which they behave can all depend on how the other person describes them. First Impression This can mean that their first impression of the other person won’t be formed through being in their presence; it will be formed through listening to what other people say. It then might not matter how accurate their descriptions are, as one can believe they are finding out what someone is like. However, if one hears what other people have to say and then decides to come to their own conclusion, they might be able see for themselves. But, this doesn’t mean they won’t...
